Research Foundation
The Indianapolis Gastroenterology Research Foundation was founded in 1990. It is a not-for-profit corporation formed to help develop and provide research programs for our patients. The goal of our physicians is to have "a study for every patient" if necessary. Many of the patients referred to us have very complex problems. They have often been seen by other doctors prior to referral and have often been treated with standard therapies but have failed to improve. Hence, they need something not routinely available. Our physicians' research interests and their involvement in national research trials offer our patients the opportunity to receive cutting edge therapy which is otherwise unavailable.

Dr. Elmore's research interests are in patients suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Patients with IBS may have predominantly diarrhea, constipation or alternating constipation and diarrhea. The hallmark of IBS is abdominal pain or discomfort which is often relieved or improved by the passage of a bowel movement. Many patients with IBS also experience bloating and straining when passing a bowel movement. Fortunately, there are new medications available to treat IBS that can significantly improve quality of life.
