Ambassadors for Children Facts

What Is Ambassadors for Children?

Ambassadors for Children is a not-for-profit charitable organization that offers opportunities for global humanitarianism to individuals and families through the Ambassadair Travel Club.

What Is AFC's Purpose?

Ambassadors for Children seeks to help children around the world who are victims of natural disaster, war, political oppression and economic hardship, while offering volunteers a life-changing experience. AFC trips provide opportunities for hands-on interaction with disadvantaged children of the world, balanced by opportunities for sightseeing and experiencing the native culture of the mission destination.

How Did Ambassadors For Children Get Started?

Ambassadair Travel Club President Sally Brown had a vision to combine travel with serving others and founded Ambassadors for Children in early 1998. An Advisory Board was formed with a diverse membership including doctors, educators, travel experts, media specialists, ministers and representatives from the business and non-profit sector. Board members volunteer their time and talents to plan the humanitarian mission portion of the trips as well as the necessary fundraising and donation procurement programs. Ambassadair Travel Club handles the trip details such as air transportation, hotel accommodations, ground transfers and sightseeing tours.

Where Does AFC Go?

AFC has facilitated volunteer missions to aid children in Mexico City, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Kenya, Haiti, Ecuador, Peru, Alaska, Brazil, Vietnam, Puerto Vallarta, Belize, Ixtapa, Montana (Blackfeet Reservation) and other communities in need. Trips vary in length from four days to two weeks and offer an array of volunteer opportunities.

What Does Ambassadors for Children Do?

An important aspect of the AFC humanitarian trips is the delivery of specifically requested items to the children in each destination. In addition to donations of medicines, medical equipment, food, clothing, hygiene items, school supplies and toys, AFC volunteers have provided children with medical care, eye exams and glasses and dental care. AFC has also directly funded orphanage, youth center and home building projects as well as school expenses for children who would not otherwise receive an education.

How is AFC Funded?

AFC receives donations from trip participants, businesses, student groups, religious organizations, service clubs and individuals simply wishing to help. In addition, supplies are purchased for trips with monies obtained through direct cash donations and AFC fundraisers such as the President's Club Silent Auction and the AFC Race for Kids. Ambassadors for Children is a registered 501(c)(3) public charity. Donations are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.
