Missionary Ventures International (MVI)
In 1976 a terrible earthquake devastated parts of Guatemala. David Beam was an independent missionary working in Guatemala City. His ministry was to bring the love and message of Christ to the squatter camps that had sprung up after the earthquake. His brother Steve Beam, who was a pastor in Tampa, Florida, organized a mission trip to go to Guatemala to help Dave and the desperate people. Soon other teams followed and Missionary Ventures International (MVI) was born. Steve became the Founder and President of MVI, a interdenominational, not-for-profit organization located in Orlando, Florida.
What is MVI all about? Listen to their own words:
"MVI is a servant organization committed to serving the indigenous church overseas and partnering with worthwhile ministries in the U.S. Our purpose is to encourage, facilitate and enable indigenous church planting. The process of development begins with the training of pastors and evangelists, sending them out with sponsorship to establish new centers of ministry.
These ministries grow into congregations that nurture and spread the love and message of Christ to their own people. The ministries of the local congregations are shaped by the needs of the community - feeding centers, schools, orphanages, clinics and hospitals. To assist these ministries, volunteer mission teams go to the various countries with medical supplies, food and clothing. Pastor and child sponsorships are also an important part of enabling the local ministry to continue serving.
As we work with groups and churches to set up short-term trips, we try to match the skills and gifts of the team with specific needs. We should work with you to identify dates that will work with your group then what countries we have available for teams during that time."
MVI has been instrumental in helping Dr. Elmore go on his trips to Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Peru. As a result of these trips, hundreds of individuals have gone on short-term mission trips. MVI facilitates a variety of teams: Evangelistic, Medical, Youth Ministry, Surgical, Dental, Pastor Conferences, Crusade and Construction Teams.
